Doug ‘VB’ Goudie, formerly of Boston’s WRKO and Fox 25, laid off from iHeartMedia again

Talk about a heartless industry.

iHeartMedia has again laid off Doug “VB” Goudie, who was previously on WRKO and was a producer for The Howie Carr Show. Goudie was also a popular Fox 25 news personality.

Goudie — who on social media describes himself as a “conservative voice in the Upstate New York wilderness” — was recently let go from iHeartMedia’s WGY in Albany, where he hosted mornings.

iHeartMedia has been cutting staff across the country in another round of layoffs.

“The corporate axe came down, and yes, my neck was under it, so that’s that,” Goudie said in a video on Tuesday, while wearing his Red Sox hat.

After Goudie departed WRKO when he was laid off by iHeart during their 2020 cuts, he returned to iHeart soon after to host mornings on WGY in New York.

“I don’t know what’s next for me,” he said on Tuesday. “I’m open to everything and anything, and I’m just not sure yet.

“But as we all do in New York, when we get knocked down or we get pushed around or that path doesn’t go where we think it’s going, we turn to that state motto of ours,” Goudie added. “I know it’s cliché but it is true: ‘Excelsior.’ That’s what I teach my kids. That’s what I’m doing right now, and when I know more, I’ll let you know more. I promise.”

During his video announcing his departure, he recapped his busy four years at the New York station.

“We’ve seen the rise and fall of (Gov.) Andrew Cuomo, we’ve seen the fall and rise of Donald Trump,” Goudie said. “We’ve seen the first-ever female governor here in New York, who immediately saw the fall of her lieutenant governor. We saw an attempt on Lee Zeldin’s life when he was running for governor, and we saw a gang shooting in his backyard, too.

“We saw a former governor, David Paterson, get in a street fight at the age of 70 this year, and he came on the show the day after to give us the blow-by-blow. How ’bout that?” he added. “We saw our police chief try not once, not twice, but thrice to get out of Albany. Third time was the charm, he’s gone… We saw the Belmont come to Saratoga.”

His first day on air at the New York station was Jan. 7, 2021 — the day after Trump supporters attacked the Capitol. His last day at the station was two days after Trump was elected for his second term.

“Think about those bookends, and the time that we had together in between there,” Goudie said. “Pretty cool.”
