Tyler Adamo’s six TD tosses lead Lynnfield past Dennis-Yarmouth

LYNNFIELD — On paper, it set up as one of the premier quarterback matchups in the opening round of the MIAA football playoffs. And on Friday at Pioneer Stadium, Dennis-Yarmouth’s Jayden Barber held up his end of the deal.

The problem for the Dolphins was that Lynnfield’s Tyler Adamo had a night for the ages. The Pioneers’ signal caller completed 16 of 18 passes for 297 yards and six touchdowns as Lynnfield advanced to the second round of the Div. 6 playoffs, 45-20.

How good was Adamo’s night? His only two incompletions came on a throwaway and a drop in the end zone that would have been a seventh touchdown.

“We are able to give all our athletes a chance to make plays,” Pioneers coach Pat Lamusta said. “That’s how the offense is set up. And we had a lot of kids with explosive plays.”

Barber put up fantastic numbers of his own in his final game in a Dolphin uniform, throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns. But he was picked off three times and his team were stopped twice in the red zone by the Lynnfield defense.

“Jayden and that offense are so explosive, but we were able to get some key stops over the course of the game,” Lamusta said.

The tone was set early as D-Y punted and Lynnfield (8-1) wasted little time in striking. Adamo hit a wide-open Madux Iovinelli for an 80-yard score on the Pioneers’ first offensive play.

An Iovinelli interception on the next series set up his second TD catch of the game and a 13-0 Lynnfield lead. The Dolphins turned it over on downs the next series and Lynnfield made it 19-0 on the first play of the second quarter via Adamo’s pass to Jesse Dorman that covered 15 yards.

The Dolphins (6-3) reached the Lynnfield 15 moments later but were stopped on downs. Adamo and company then raced 85 yards as Iovinelli caught his third TD of the half to make it 25-0.

Barber breathed life into the D-Y hopes late in the half when he found Walter Mayo for a 37-yard score in the last minute to make it 25-7 at the break.

The fast break offense continued in the third quarter as Dorman caught an 83-yard pass from Adamo on the second play of the half to make it 32-7.

Barber and Mayo hooked up for an 80-yard response on the next play before Lynnfield finally put the game away.

Jared Bernabei capped an 80-yard drive with a three-yard run. Then off a Spencer D’Augusta interception, Adamo capped his spectacular evening with a TD toss to Lucas Deraps that made it 45-14 and invoked running time for the fourth quarter.
