Patriots new addition Yannick Ngakoue won’t play vs. Bears

The Patriots announced that defensive end Yannick Ngakoue won’t play Sunday against the Bears.

Ngakoue has been ruled out.

That news doesn’t come as a major surprise since Ngakoue was claimed off waivers from the Ravens on Friday at 4 p.m. The Patriots had already wrapped up practice for the week around 1 p.m.

The Bengals also put in a waiver claim for Ngakoue, a 2017 Pro Bowl selection, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

The Patriots have four edge defenders available for Week 10: Keion White, Anfernee Jennings, Deatrich Wise and Ochaun Mathis. Linebackers Sione Takitaki, Jahlani Tavai and Curtis Jacobs can also play on the edge, but the Patriots will be shorthanded at that position after ruling out Christian Elliss (abdomen) and waiving Raekwon McMillan on Friday.

The Patriots could elect to elevate a linebacker — Joe Giles-Harris or Monty Rice — or an edge defenders — Keshawn Banks — from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. If the Patriots do elevate anyone, it would be announced around 4 p.m.
