Trump claims victory with ‘powerful mandate,’ vows ‘I will not let you down’

President-elect Donald Trump took to the stage just before 2:30 a.m. to declare: “We made history tonight for a reason.”

“I will not rest until we have delivered a strong, prosperous America,” Trump promised from Palm Beach, Fla. “This is a magnificent victory.”

Trump spoke just after being declared the winner in battleground Pennsylvania by the Associated Press, with numerous media outlets also declaring him the next president while still on the precipice of the 270 Electoral College votes.

Winning Pennsylvania put Trump just three electoral votes shy of defeating Kamala Harris to win the White House, the AP and other media outlets said.

All he needs was a victory in Alaska, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona or Nevada. But Trump didn’t hold back saying his victory “came from all quarters” that “united” around “a common core of common sense.”

Trump introduced his running-mate, Vice President-elect JD Vance, who said “we just witnessed the greatest comeback in American history” and said the incoming administration would do the same for the economy.

Trump said he will serve as president with the motto: “Promises made, promises kept.”

“Success is going to bring us together,” he added. “I will not let you down.”

Trump spoke while flanked by his family, with his wife Melania and youngest son Barron close by, and friends. He also gave shout-outs to Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

It’s a stunning victory that came during a raucous election season that saw Trump survive an assassination attempt, his rival President Joe Biden — who defeated him in 2020 — being pushed out of the race by fellow Democrats and the Vice President Kamala Harris being thrust into the fray without a primary.

Harris did not address the nation last night with her camp said she’d speak after daylight.

The MassGOP also congratulated the return president, also hitting on the migrant crisis that Trump quickly touched on.

“In Massachusetts, we’ve felt the failures of the Biden-Harris Administration profoundly,” said MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale. “Our Commonwealth faces an unprecedented migrant crisis that will cost the Commonwealth billions, and inflation has combined with our state’s poor fiscal policies to push more residents out than we attract.”
