Bruins place Max Jones on waivers
With Tyler Johnson signed and going into the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins made another roster move.
The B’s placed forward Max Jones, who signed a two-year deal with a yearly salary of $1 million, on waivers. Whether he clears or is claimed by a team, his salary will no longer count against the salary cap. The second year of the deal could well be a deterrent against any team claiming him. We’ll find out at 2 p.m. on Wednesday if he clears or is claimed.
The 26-year-old Jones had played 258 NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks before signing with the Bruins last July. But he suffered a groin injury in the Black-and-Gold intrasquad scrimmage in Providence at the start of camp and missed almost all of camp.
In the meantime, Cole Koepke emerged in camp and has fit in nicely with left wing Johnny Beecher and center Mark Kastelic on a fourth line that has been the B’s most positive story in their slow start to the season.
Jones had gotten into four games for the B’s and was not able to find his niche. He did not record a point, had taken four minor penalties and was a minus-3 in Boston’s disastrous 8-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last Thursday.
