Taiwan October 2024: BMW (+20.9%), Ford (+12.4%) defy sinking market

Taiwanese BMW sales are up 20.9% in a market off -18%

The Taiwanese new car market was impacted by the Shantol and Kangrui typhoons in October, with various county and city governments declaring a national typhoon holiday for several days. As a result October sales are off a sharp -18% year-on-year to 33,231, bringing the year-to-date tally down -3.3% to 377,347. Toyota (-5%) improves to a fantastic 32.2% share vs. 27.1% so far this year, while Lexus (+7.3%) delivers the only year-on-year gain in the Top 6, returning to its usual 2nd place. Mercedes (-8.7%) limits its fall to single digits but Honda (-47.9%), Hyundai (-25.9%) and CMC (-24.3%) all fast faster than the market. BMW (+20.9%) and Mazda (+12.4%) defy the negative market with double-digit lifts just as Ford (-9%) reappears inside the Top 10 for the first time this year.

Model-wise, Toyota monopolies the Top 4 for the 2nd month in a row, with the Toyota Corolla Cross (+12.9%) returning to its traditional pole position and the leader of the past two months, the Toyota Town Ace (+32.1%) posting another outstanding result. the Toyota RAV4 (-2.9%) and Yaris Cross (-9.8%) resist below.
