A driver turned herself in and was charged after allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal crash that killed two occupants of the other car Saturday, Essex County DA Paul Tucker reported.

Around 6 a.m. Saturday, the DA’s office said, State Police troopers and Methuen Fire responded to the scene of a crash on I-495 northbound in Methuen, finding several people trapped in a heavily damaged pickup truck.

Two occupants of the pickup truck were transported to Lawrence General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the DA stated.

Another, a 37-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The fourth occupant, a 41-year-old man, was taken to the hospital and died there.

The names of the people who died are not being released at this time, the DA’s office said, pending family notification.

The second driver in the accident, identified as 26-year-old Katrina Nguyen, allegedly left the scene of the crash, the DA’s office said.

Nguyen later turned herself in at the Lawrence Police Department. The driver was charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, leaving the scene resulting in death, leaving the scene with personal injury, leaving the scene with property damage, and operating a motor vehicle after suspension.
