After man killed in stabbing at his St. Paul apartment building, another resident arrested
After a man was killed in a stabbing in his St. Paul apartment building Sunday, police arrested another resident of the building.
Officers responded about 6:15 p.m. to a report of an assault in the Summit-University neighborhood. They were directed to a hallway of the building at 313 N. Dale Street, just off Interstate 94, and found a man suffering from puncture injuries to his torso, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.
The man was unconscious and barely breathing. Officers provided first aid to the victim until St. Paul Fire Department medics took over and transported him to Regions Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police found the suspect at the apartment building and took him into custody, Ernster said. The apartment building is Dale Street Place, which its website describes as “supportive housing for seniors and disabled individuals.”
The 64-year-old suspect was booked into the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of murder.
Preliminary information is that the two men got into an altercation, which led to the stabbing, according to Ernster. Police said they will release the victim’s name after it’s confirmed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The man’s homicide was the 26th of the year in St. Paul. There were 28 at this time last year.
The St. Paul Police Department counts 25 homicides this year because the department’s records are for cases investigated by the city’s police department. Another homicide in St. Paul this year was investigated by Metro Transit Police.
