Sarah Ryan and Ryanne Tomlin scored in the shootout, while sophomore goalie Charlotte DeSchepper stopped all five shots as No. 15 Acton-Boxboro (8-7-4) edged 18th-seeded Newton North 1-0 in a Div. 1 first- round contest.

Maggie Rennick scored three goals as No. 30 Triton (7-12-0) rolled to a 4-0 win over No. 35 in a Div. 3 preliminary round matchup.

Mary Atkinson netted the game’s only goal as No. 32  Melrose (4-10-3) edged 33rd-seeded Amherst-Pelham 1-0 in a Div. 2 preliminary round tilt.

FOOTBALL

In the Dual County League, Matt Carleton and Connor Sones each had two rushing scores as Concord-Carlisle (5-3) took down Acton-Boxboro 35-14.

GIRLS SOCCER

In a MVADA Large semifinal game, Lilly Githitu finished with a goal and an assist to lead Greater Lowell (10-3-4) to a 2-1 victory over Southeastern.

In a MVADA Small semifinal contest, Destanee Soba netted two tallies and Audra DiCicco had the shutout as Nashoba Valley Tech (16-2) blanked McCann Tech 4-0.

BOYS BASKETBALL

The 28th annual BABC/Slades Bar and Grille Holiday Classic will take place on December 27-28 at Archbishop Williams. The action begins on Dec. 27 as Archbishop Williams opens the festivities at noon against Quincy, followed by Brockton-Brookline (1:30), LaSalle Academy-Eagle Academy (3) and Burke-Springfield Central (4:30). The following day, Brockton and Quincy tip off at noon and the rest of the schedule consists of LaSalle Academy-Brookline (1:30), Burke-Eagle Academy (3), Archbishop Williams-BC High (4:30) and North Quincy-Fenway (6).
