Aggressive Feehan defensive dominates Fenwick in 31-7 win

ATTLEBORO — Bishop Feehan coach Brian Pinabell told his team all week that the playoffs for the Shamrocks began Saturday against unbeaten Bishop Fenwick.

And in front of a packed homecoming crowd at McMahon Stadium, Pinabell’s team passed round one with flying colors.

The Shamrocks (6-1) put forth a dominant effort on both sides of the ball as quarterback Owen Mordas threw for two scores and tailback David Quinn added two others in a 31-7 win over the Crusaders.

“This is a huge confidence boost for us,” Pinabell said. “Fenwick is so tough, and I have so much respect for Dave (Woods) and what they do over there. I like the fact that we are playing our hardest games now.”

The Fenwick (5-1) offense never could find its footing against the Shamrocks defense. They ran only 10 plays in Feehan territory all game as quarterback Brayden Clifford was constantly harassed into a 6-of-18 performance.

On offense, Mordas and Quinn were able to find openings all game. They combined for 27 carries for 153 yards and the two scores from Quinn.

Feehan grabbed the lead midway through the first quarter thanks to a short field when Mordas hit sophomore tight end Adam Hertel for a 30-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead following Aidan Neary’s kick.

Feehan doubled its lead early in the second quarter thanks to a much longer march.

This one was 76 yards in 10 plays, aided by a pair of pass interference penalties along with an unsportsmanlike call on the Crusaders. Quinn capped it with an eight-yard run to make it 14-0.

In danger of being blown out by the half, the Crusaders went to the bag of tricks and hit a big one as Lincoln Dugan fired a 60-yard touchdown to Jesse Timson on a reverse pass to halve the lead.

Feehan got its final points of the half after Fenwick fumbled inside its 10. They settled for a Neary field goal to lead by 10 at the break.

The Shamrocks then effectively put the game way on the first two possessions of the third quarter. After Fenwick went three and out, Feehan needed only four plays to march 55 yards as Mordas hit Bradyn Goodwin for a 22-yard touchdown and a 24-7 lead.

“We are able to spread the ball around so much,” Pinabell said. “We’ve got seven or eight guys that we can get the ball.”

Quinn put a bow on a nearly flawless day from Feehan midway through the fourth when he scored for the second time on the afternoon.
