Patriots champion arrested after allegedly assaulting an 82-year-old man at Rhode Island gym
A former Patriots fullback, on the team at the start of the Brady-Belichick dynasty, is accused of pushing an 82-year-old man at a gym during an alleged scuffle over a piece of exercise equipment.
North Providence police arrested Patrick Pass, 46, on charges of assaulting a man over the age of 60 and causing bodily injury on Wednesday, weeks after the incident unfolded at a local Planet Fitness on Aug. 28, according to authorities.
Pass was released on $10,000 bail and ordered not to contact the victim after being arraigned. He will return to court in January.
The former Patriot, part of the three Super Bowl-winning teams in the early 2000s, and the 82-year-old victim allegedly verbally confronted each other over a piece of exercise equipment, authorities said.
The victim injured his lower back when he fell to the ground after Pass pushed him, police said.
New England selected Pass, a running back out of Georgia, in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft, exactly 40 slots after Tom Brady went with the 199th pick. Pass transitioned into a fullback in his professional career.
Pass’ best season as a pro came in 2005 when he ran for 245 yards and three touchdowns while compiling 227 receiving yards. He left the Patriots after the 2006 season and then played just one game for the Giants in 2007 before his career ended.
Pass had stayed active in football, becoming the head coach of the Massachusetts Pirates Indoor Football League team in 2020 and being named the director of football development in 2022.
The league suspended him indefinitely in July 2023 for an altercation with several players during a game in Phoenix that spilled over into the stands.
