Matthew Naumec, Ricky Stimets advance to Massachusetts Amateur title match
Matthew Naumec and Ricky Stimets will battle Friday with the 116th Massachusetts Amateur Championship on the line.
Naumec enters the 36-hole final with one advantage – he’s a member at Framingham Country Club, where the event is taking place. But Stimets, who plays out of Worcester CC, has been superb all week.
Framingham CC is hosting the event for the first time. Naumec and Stimets not only have defeated quality golfers to advance, they’ve played impressive golf in oppressive heat.
Naumec advanced to the final with a 4 & 3 victory over veteran Matt Parziale of Thorny Lea. In the final match to finish, Stimets held off Ethan Whitney of Oak Hill 1-up in a tremendous battle.
Whitney produced an impressive victory in the quarterfinals when he easily bounced defending champ Ryan Downes of GreatHorse 5 & 4.
The other three quarterfinal matches weren’t nail-biters either – Naumec topped John Broderick of Dedham Country and Polo Club (3 & 2), Parziale eliminated Aidan O’Donovan of Cummaquid Golf Club (4 & 2) and Stimets got past Danny Frodigh of Dedham Country and Polo Club (4 & 2).
