Hyundai’s N Vision 74 Hydrogen Supercar Will Supposedly Become a Real Thing in 2026 as a 765-HP Fuel Cell Marvel

Hyundai’s N Vision 74, a hydrogen supercar concept, is poised to transition from concept to reality by 2026. According to multiple reports, including a prominent article in South Korea’s The Korea Economic Daily, this futuristic vehicle will become a production model.

The N Vision 74 draws inspiration from the classic DeLorean, blending retro styling with modern technology. Internally dubbed the “N74,” this sports car features a rear-wheel-drive layout and is expected to be a two-door coupe with striking gullwing doors. Its design pays homage to Hyundai’s first car, the 1974 Pony Coupe, ensuring it carries a legacy while pushing boundaries.

The production version of the N74 is rumored to boast a significant power upgrade from its concept form. Initially showcased with 671 horsepower, the street-legal model will reportedly deliver at least 765 horsepower. According to The Korea Economic Daily, this power will enable the N74 to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a mere three seconds. Additionally, Hyundai has ambitious plans for the N74 to challenge the Nürburgring lap record for production cars.

Hyundai plans to produce only 200 units of the N74, with production spanning from 2026 to 2028. Prototype testing is scheduled to commence in August of this year. The price tag for this exclusive supercar is estimated at 500 million won, approximately $366,000. While the high cost suggests that profitability might not be the primary goal, Hyundai aims to demonstrate the exciting potential of hydrogen technology.

The N74 is more than just a supercar; it’s Hyundai’s statement on the viability of hydrogen fuel cells as a performance-oriented technology. While the market’s response remains uncertain, especially given the hefty price and the brand’s existing reputation, Hyundai’s recent success with the Ioniq 5 N suggests that they are capable of producing thrilling battery-powered EVs. The N74 aims to extend this excitement into the realm of hydrogen-powered vehicles.

As with any pre-production rumors, it’s wise to approach the information with some skepticism. However, if the reports hold true, the N74 could offer a unique alternative to the current array of internal combustion engine (ICE), plug-in hybrid, and fully electric supercars. Its innovative powertrain and exceptional design could set it apart in the automotive world, marking a significant step forward for hydrogen technology in high-performance vehicles.
