Sarah Behn was involved in several basketball enterprises, but deep down she longed for a different challenge.

That came when the Archbishop Williams’ girls basketball job opened up.

The former Foxboro High great threw her name into the mix and was named the school’s new girls hoop coach, replacing Matt Maloney, who stepped down following the season.

“I’ve been doing a lot of camp work with the Sarah Behn Basketball Camp and Basketball by Behn as well as at Dana Barros Basketball,” Behn said. “I’ve been doing that a lot, six days a week and 4-5 hours a day and I love doing that.

“The one thing I missed was being on the court with one team, interacting with them and hopefully watching them improve. I was going to games and I was getting itchy and I was missing that competition. I’ve always had a lot of respect for Archbishop Williams and their program – they’ve got a long history of being successful.”

One of the state’s all-time greats, Behn played at Foxboro High from 1985-1989 and scored 2,562 points, which is seventh on the state’s all-time scoring list. She went on to compete at Boston College where she went on to become the school all-time leading women’s scorer with 2,523 points and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 1998.

Behn has coached at the high school and college level from 1997-2020. Her last job was at Brown where she coached from 2014-2020. Prior to that, Behn coached at Framingham State (1997-2000), Franklin Pierce (2000-2002), Foxboro High School (2004-2011) and UMass-Lowell (2011-2014).

“My job is to find the best coaches to lead student-athletes,” said Archbishop Williams athletic director Sean McDonagh. “In regards to Sarah, what I am most excited about is that she comes in with her credentials and the girls here already respect that.”
