Red Sox lineup: Bernardino opens, Grissom sits after debut

MINNEAPOLIS – After dropping the series opener 5-2 on Friday night, the Red Sox look to snap their two-game losing streak and the Twins’ 11-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon in Minnesota.

Game 2 of the series is a bullpen affair for Boston, with Brennan Bernardino opening.

Vaughn Grissom has a day off after making his season debut on Friday night. Cora said he’s available off the bench, but is hoping to avoid using the infielder to give him the rest.

Though the Red Sox have been out-scored 8-3 over their last two games, they entered Saturday with MLB’s sixth-best run differential (+36), and ranked top-five in the American League in runs, homers, batting average (.245), on-base (.321) and slugging (.405), OPS (.726), walks, doubles, triples, and stolen bases. They’re hitting .295 with an .811 OPS over their last nine games.

They have, however, struggled with the long ball recently; their five-game streak without a home run is their longest stretch since a six-game drought from April 23-28, 2022.
