Red Sox Lineup: New pitching prospect to start against Northeastern

One of the Red Sox more interesting, under-the-radar offseason additions is set to take the hill in Friday’s exhibition against Northeastern University.

Helcris Olivarez is scheduled to start for the Red Sox in their first game of the spring. The 23-year-old left-hander joined the Red Sox this past offseason on a minor league deal and was previously a top prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization whose fastball topped 100 mph. He has spent most of the past two seasons injured and has also battled control issues, but he’s expected to be a non-roster invitee to watch in camp.

Second baseman Nick Yorke, Boston’s No. 6 ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, will get the start at second base and bat second. Nathan Hickey (MLB Pipeline No. 16), David Hamilton (No. 20) and Chase Meidroth (No. 21) are all in the lineup as well, and Northeastern will be led by top MLB Draft prospect Mike Sirota, an outfielder projected to go in the top 10 this summer.

Aiven Cabral, a sophomore right-hander from Lynn who attended St. Mary’s High School, is set to start for the Huskies.
