Aidan ‘Turtleboy’ Kearney indicted on new charges

Aidan “Turtleboy” Kearney, a blogger well known for activist blogging in defense of murder suspect Karen Read, was indicted this morning on two counts related to a domestic battery case.

Kearney, 42, was arraigned in Dedham District Court at the end of December on charges of assault and battery on a household member and witness intimidation in connection with events that occurred at an address in Medfield in the pre-dawn hours of Christmas Eve.

That case has been elevated to the Norfolk Superior Court, also in Dedham. On Friday morning, a grand jury indicted Kearney on two charges. One is unlawful recording, and the other a more convoluted and lengthy charge: witness intimidation against the woman, described in the indictment as a “witness or potential witness or … a family member … with the intent to or with reckless disregard for the fact that it may … impede, obstruct, delay, prevent or otherwise interfere with a criminal investigation at any stage.”

Kearney appeared in court today for a bail hearing in his other Superior Court case, where a judge released him personal recognizance. That case saw him indicted also in December on 16 charges, which includes eight charges of witness intimidation. It is unclear if the hearing will also address the new indictment.

Read is charged with the murder of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, her boyfriend of two years, in late January 2022. Her case remains pending in Norfolk Superior Court.

This is a developing story …
