Public memorial service for 3 fallen Burnsville first responders to be held Feb. 28

A joint public memorial service will be held on Feb. 28 for the three Burnsville first responders killed in the line of duty, the city announced Wednesday.

Burnsville officers Matthew Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, and Burnsville firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth, 40, died Sunday. Police had responded to an early Sunday 911 call about an alleged sexual assault, during which a man barricaded himself in a house and later opened fire.

The memorial service for the three men will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Grace Church, 9301 Eden Prairie Road in Eden Prairie. The city said they’ll have further details about the service early next week.

Grace Church’s auditorium can accommodate up to 4,300 people, according to a church spokesperson.
