A 34-year-old Fall River man who was shot last week died Friday at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Joshua Medeiros was shot near the intersection of Nashua and Blackstone streets, prosecutors said. Authorities did not identify who shot Medeiros and said no further information was available.

Prosecutors said they are now investigating the death as a homicide.

“The investigation is being coordinated by Homicide Unit prosecutor Russ Eonas and will be conducted by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office and detectives from the Fall River Police Department,” the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Men charged with sexually exploiting a minor

A 41-year-old Oxford man and a 25-year-old Rhode Island man were charged Friday for allegedly sexually exploiting a minor female and filming the assault, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors accused Michael Lamountain of Oxford and Jalen Latimer of Woonsocket, Rhode Island of creating video recordings of themselves sexually exploiting a minor. Both men were in state custody and had an appearance scheduled in a Worcester federal courtroom on Friday.

Lamountain was previously arrested in August 2023 and charged with rape of a child; aggravated indecent assault and battery on a child; depicting minors in sexual conduct; human trafficking of a minor; possession of child pornography; distribution of child pornography; and intimidation of a witness.

Cigarette to the face at South Station

MBTA police are looking for a man they accused of throwing a lit cigarette in a person’s face and displaying a knife in a “threatening manner” on Tuesday morning, the department said on social media.

The victim suffered from a burn because of the cigarette, police said.

Owner of telemedicine companies pleads guilty to fraud

The owner of two telemedicine companies agreed to plead guilty to a $110 million fraud scheme involving orthotics equipment like back and knee braces, federal prosecutors said Friday.

Steven Richardson, a 40-year-old of Parkland, Florida, spent almost seven years entering into deals with telemarketing companies that generated leads on Medicare beneficiaries for his businesses, Expansion Media and Hybrid Management Group, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said the telemarketers paid Expansion and Hybrid on “a per-order basis to generate orders for (durable medical equipment) for these beneficiaries.”

Richardson worked with medical staffing companies, including one in Massachusetts, to find doctors and nurses who were willing to review and sign prepopulated orders, “typically without any contact with the beneficiaries,” prosecutors said.

“It is alleged that the records falsely portrayed the medical providers as having performed a legitimate examination of the beneficiary,” prosecutors said.

“Richardson then allegedly provided the signed orders to the telemarketing companies which sold the orders to (durable medical equipment) suppliers,” according to a U.S. Attorney’s office statement. “Richardson allegedly knew that these (durable medical equipment) suppliers would use the signed orders to submit claims to Medicare for (durable medical equipment) that was medically unnecessary, based on false documentation and tainted by kickbacks.”

Transit police officer attacked at South Station

A 32-year-old man attacked a Transit Police Department officer Friday afternoon after the cop told the assailant “he could not sleep in the station,” authorities said.

The officer received treatment at a hospital, police said. The suspect fled but was caught by police and transferred to the department’s headquarters for booking, police said.
