Healthy-scratch Trent Brown among Patriots’ Week 17 inactives vs. Bills
Patriots left tackle Trent Brown is inactive Sunday against the Bills despite having been removed from the injury report Friday.
The Patriots gave Brown a pay bump worth $2 million in added incentives in September with the goal to keep him on the field. Since Brown missed time with knee and ankle injuries at midseason, meaning he wouldn’t receive all of his increased pay, they’ve had trouble keeping him motivated over the final weeks of the season, according to a source.
Brown has been more outspoken with the media in recent weeks, as well. He was upset about a report from Sports Illustrated that he’s “perpetually late.” He’ll be a free agent after the season.
Vederian Lowe and Andrew Stueber, who was elevated from the practice squad Saturday, are the Patriots’ available left tackles. Stueber is set to make his NFL debut if he gets on the field.
Here’s the full list of Patriots inactives:
S Jabrill Peppers
QB Nathan Rourke (emergency third QB)
RB JaMycal Hasty
WR Kayshon Boutte
LT Trent Brown (healthy scratch)
TE Hunter Henry
DT Sam Roberts
Hasty and Roberts are also healthy scratches.
More notes:
Peppers and Boutte didn’t make the trip to Buffalo … Henry was questionable heading into the game. The Patriots have Mike Gesicki, Pharaoh Brown and Matt Sokol, another practice squad elevation, to take over his snaps … The Patriots have Kyle Dugger, Jalen Mills, Marte Mapu and Adrian Phillips to replace Peppers … Only Ezekiel Elliott and Kevin Harris will be active at running back … Cornerback Marco Wilson, who was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals this week, is set to make his Patriots debut … Rourke will serve as the emergency third QB behind Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones.
