New Car Preview: 2024 McLaren GTS

The 2024 McLaren GTS represents a forward-thinking addition to the prestigious McLaren lineup, stepping into the shoes of its predecessor, the GT. Positioned as a super-lightweight option, the GTS combines the exhilarating driving dynamics and performance that define McLaren with the comfort, refinement, and practicality suited for everyday use and extended journeys.

Key to the GTS’s prowess is McLaren’s carbon fiber monocoque chassis and commitment to super-lightweight engineering. Weighing in at just 3,351 lbs. (DIN), the GTS boasts a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 412 HP-per-ton, thanks to its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 626 horsepower at 7,500 rpm – an increase of 14 horsepower compared to its predecessor, the GT. The result is a rapid acceleration from 0-60 mph 3.2 seconds and 0-124 mph in 8.9 seconds, highlighting the car’s prowess on the road.

The exterior design enhancements lend the GTS a more assertive appearance, featuring a redesigned ‘hammerhead’ front end with pronounced air intakes, wider front intakes, and taller air scoops on the rear fenders. These not only contribute to the car’s visual appeal but also serve functional purposes by optimizing airflow to the powerful V8 engine. The exhaust system, available with an optional Sports Exhaust, delivers a raw supercar soundtrack.

McLaren has prioritized personalization, offering new exterior color options like ‘Lava Grey,’ and introducing the exclusive ‘Turbine’ forged alloy wheel. The interior is designed for both performance and luxury, featuring Nappa leather-trimmed Comfort seats and an array of high-quality materials. The 10.25-inch digital instrument display provides essential driver information, while the 7-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, with navigation and media streaming capabilities, ensures a modern and user-friendly experience.

The GTS stands out not only for its performance on the road but also for its practicality. The carbon fiber monocoque chassis allows for a spacious and versatile luggage space of 420 liters behind the passenger cell, complemented by an additional 150 liters in the front. The car’s total cargo space of 570 liters makes it the most practical new supercar available.

The GTS excels in urban environments as well, with excellent visibility and a vehicle lift function that can raise or lower the nose in just four seconds, significantly faster than its predecessor. The McLaren GTS, with its combination of performance, practicality, and luxury, is available for order now, with deliveries slated for 2024. As the latest addition to McLaren’s evolving lineup, the GTS sets a new standard for a lightweight supercar that seamlessly blends the thrill of driving with everyday usability.
