FOOTBALL

Abington announced that Ed Reilly has been named as the new head football coach, replacing Jim Kelliher, who retired following a historic 50-year run.

Reilly has been part of the program as an assistant since 1997, the last 22 as offensive coordinator and associate head coach. A graduate of Abington, Reilly played his college football at Holy Cross, where he was part of a 1990 Patriot League championship team.

“I am excited and honored to continue the legacy that coach Kelliher has built with Green Wave football, and I am fortunate to have been able to learn from him as both a player and as his assistant coach,” Reilly said. “I look forward to continuing to use the game of football to help student-athletes find success on and off the field in a town which has meant so much to me and my family. I am excited to get to work.”

In other football news, Manchester-Essex announced it will be rejoining the Cape Ann League in football, competing in the Baker Division effective in the fall of 2024. The Hornets will  play Essex Tech on Thanksgiving Day for the foreseeable future with the first meeting at Essex Tech in 2024.

Wachusett tight end/defensive end Grayson Baker will officially commit to the US Military Academy on Wednesday. Baker was a team captain and a three-year letterwinner at Wachusett.

BOYS BASKETBALL

In nonleague play, Derrick Twum finished with 39 points, nine boards and six assists as Innovation (2-3) took down Neighborhood House, 80-65. … Caden Sullivan and Henry DiGiorgio dropped 13 points apiece, leading Franklin to a thrilling 52-49 win over Dartmouth.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Riley Hogan (13 points), Meri Morey (10 points), and Avery Tucker (8 points) led a balanced scoring attack as Lowell Catholic defeated Notre Dame (Tyngsboro), 52-20.

Divine Egbuta scored 10 points, while Keisha Perez added seven points, six assists and five steals as Lynn Classical defeated Everett, 36-28.

BOYS HOCKEY

Brady Forde and Ben Merrill scored twice as Masconomet (2-1) defeated Malden Catholic 5-2 in a nonleague contest.
