Source: Patriots claim new quarterback off waivers from Jaguars
It didn’t take long for the Patriots to replace quarterback Will Grier.
The Patriots claimed quarterback Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Jaguars, a source confirmed. They needed a new third QB after the Chargers signed Will Grier off of the Patriots’ practice squad and onto their 53-man roster. The Patriots also recently lost QB Malik Cunningham off of their practice squad to the Ravens.

Rourke, 25, went undrafted out of Ohio in 2020. He spent 2020-2022 with the CFL’s BC Lions and won the Most Outstanding Canadian award in 2022.
Rourke signed with the Jaguars in January. He began the season on the Jaguars’ practice squad but signed to the 53-man roster in October. He was waived on Saturday.
The Victoria, British Columbia native threw for 7,457 yards with 60 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in three seasons with Ohio. He also rushed for 3,007 yards and 49 touchdowns.
In three preseason games this summer, Rourke went 23-of-35 for 348 yards with a touchdown pass. He also rushed for one score.
Rourke played high school football in Ontario and Alabama. He joins Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones on the Patriots’ QB depth chart.
