Source: Chargers signing Patriots’ backup QB for rest of the season
The Chargers are signing quarterback Will Grier off of the Patriots’ practice squad to their 53-man roster Monday, a source confirmed to the Herald.

Grier first joined the Patriots in September when he was signed off of the Bengals’ practice squad onto the 53-man roster. He was cut late last month and rejoined the Patriots’ practice squad after clearing waivers. Grier ends his career in New England without playing a snap.
This is the second time in consecutive weeks that a quarterback has been signed off of the Patriots’ practice squad. The Ravens signed rookie Malik Cunningham to their 53-man roster last week.
The Patriots still have Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones on their 53-man roster. They could look to sign another quarterback for another practice arm over the final three weeks of the season. The Patriots recently worked out free-agent QBs E.J. Perry and Austin Burton.
