Matt Poitras will sit again when the Bruins take on Islanders

Bruins’ rookie center Matt Poitras will be out of the lineup Friday night when the B’s play the New York Islanders at the UBS Center, another scheduled night off to help the 19-year-old Poitras deal with the physical rigors of the NHL schedule.

With Poitras out, coach Jim Montgomery will go with a big lineup at center, inserting Trent Frederic being the pivot on a third line with wings James van Riemsdyk and Jesper Boqvist.

“It makes you big and heavy down the middle with (Morgan) Geekie, (Charlie) Coyle,(Johnny) Beecher and him. That’s four big, heavy bodies. We know that this is a heavy team that forechecks a lot, so we’re going to need to have a physical presence down low at both ends of the ice,” Montgomery told reporters on Long Island.

Boqvist, called up before the trip, will be making his second appearance in the Boston lineup this season.

. “(He brings) speed, the ability to push the pace with that line and go vertical a little bit. The reports are he’s been playing really well down in Providence. His confidence is high, so we’re excited to have him in the lineup,” said Montgomery.

With Pavel Zacha and Charlie McAvoy still out with respective upper body injuries, the B’s will need to have the same 200-foot compete level they had against the Devils on Wednesday when they lost 2-1 in overtime.

“It’s everything. It’s our fiber, right? We compete hard, we play good defense and we give ourselves an opportunity to have success,” said Montgomery.

. He said that both McAvoy and Zacha are “progressing well.” but it’s not clear when they’ll be able to get back in the lineup.

Montgomery also said that Hockey Canada has reached out to the B’s to see about Poitras’ availability for the World Junior Championships that begin on December 26.
