Def Leppard and Journey book return trip to Target Field in August

Retro rockers Def Leppard and Journey are hitting the road together for a joint summer tour that will see them return to Minneapolis’ Target Field on Aug. 19 with support from the Steve Miller Band.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 15 through Axs. Fans can register at defleppardjourney2024.com for a presale that starts at 10 a.m. Dec. 14. Citi cardholders also have access to a presale that starts at 10 a.m. Dec. 13. Neither the promoter nor the venue announced ticket prices.

Formed in England in 1977, Def Leppard went on to become one of the biggest acts of the ’80s with a long list of hits that include “Photograph,” “Rock of Ages,” “Animal,” “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” “Hysteria,” “Armageddon It,” “Love Bites” and “Rocket.” Last year, the group released their twelfth album, “Diamond Star Halos.” They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

Best known for such rock-radio staples as “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Wheel in the Sky,” “Any Way You Want It” and “Open Arms,” Journey struggled in the decade after the band’s best-known lead singer Steve Perry quit in 1998. But in 2007, they discovered Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda on YouTube, hired him based on his Perry-esque style and found renewed success on the road. Journey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

Def Leppard and Journey first played Target Field together in July 2018 and drew about 38,000 fans. Both groups are frequent visitors to the Twin Cities. This will be Journey’s sixth local show in the last decade and Def Leppard’s eighth.

While U.S. Bank Stadium continues to dominate stadium bookings in the metro — the home of the Vikings has seven shows from five acts planned next year, including Metallica, Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen — Target Field now has three set for summer. Foo Fighters, the Pretenders and L7 are set for July 28 followed by Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and the Linda Lindas on Aug. 17.
