Massachusetts could see some snow: Where’s the best chance for 2-plus inches?

Some parts of the Bay State could see the first snow accumulation of the year when they wake up on Wednesday.

National Weather Service meteorologists are forecasting some snow showers on Tuesday night into Wednesday, especially across eastern Massachusetts and particularly the South Shore. A few inches of accumulation is possible.

“The risk of light snow increases tonight as ocean-effect showers return to eastern MA, particularly SE MA,” the National Weather Service’s Boston office posted on Tuesday.

“The best chance of seeing 2+ inches of snow is along the south shore and, to a lesser extent, the north shore of MA,” NWS Boston added.

Parts of Massachusetts could see some snow, sleet, freezing rain: ‘A few slick spots on roads are possible’

The forecast shows a rather high probability of around an inch across Cape Ann on the North Shore and Plymouth County on the South Shore. There’s a 20% to 30% probability of more than 3 inches across portions of Plymouth County.

Precipitation will diminish and move offshore Wednesday afternoon.

Then Wednesday night into Thursday should be downright chilly. Thursday morning temps will range from the teens to the low 20s.

“Do bundle up, the feel like temperature for the morning commute is likely to be in the single digits to the low-teens,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads.

High temps will top out in the 30s on Thursday.

Temps should warm into the 40s on Friday, followed by a jump into the 50s on Saturday.

Then forecasters will turn their attention to a potentially strong system that could arrive Sunday into Monday — which could bring heavy rain, strong winds, and turbulent conditions to mariners. More than 1 inch of rain is expected along with high temps in the upper 50s, which is quite warm for early December.

“Once again, there is still plenty of uncertainty with the track and timing,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads. “But, it is still worth watching over the coming days.”
