LaChapelle brothers lift Uxbridge to the Div. 7 state title

FOXBORO — For the first time since winning back-to-back titles in 1991-92, Uxbridge rode siblings to win the Div. 7 state title.

Senior captain Kellen LaChapelle and sophomore Camden LaChapelle combined for 31 carries and 302 yards to go along with all six scores as the top-seeded Spartans cruised to a 42-16 victory over No. 6 Amesbury at Gillette Stadium on Friday night.

“Outstanding,” said Uxbridge coach Matt Blood about winning the state title. “I’m so happy for the kids, the players and the families that have supported their kids throughout the process. I’m so happy for the community who has shown us great support throughout this process. Again, I’m so proud of this group.”

To open the third, the Redhawks made it a one-possession game as senior Michael Sanchez rushed it in from 48 yards out and sophomore Justin Dube found sophomore Ollie Peters for the two-point conversion as Amesbury trailed 20-14.

From there, Uxbridge (13-0) took over physically as Kellen LaChapelle scored twice in the third. The first came from 21 yards out and, after Amesbury (9-3) turned the ball over on downs, he rushed it in from nine yards out to make it 35-16 with 41 ticks left in the third.

“All props to the big guys in front,” Kellen LaChapelle said after becoming the sixth player in Super Bowl history to rush for five scores. “They did everything for me. They made the holes where I could get through them. So, big thanks to those guys. I couldn’t do it without them.”

Camden LaChapelle added his lone score in the fourth as he rushed it in from three yards out to capitalize on an interception for junior Timothy Devlin.

“Very timely,” Blood said about the ability of the defense to get the ball back. “They seemed to come at great moments in this game. Not unexpected, but something that we are familiar with.”

Uxbridge forced two turnovers as senior captain Nathan Noyes also had a fumble recovery to seal the victory in the final minutes. The Spartans’ defense also forced three turnovers on downs.

In the first half, Kellen took over from the jump as he amassed 115 yards on nine carries with all three scores for Uxbridge.

Kellen LaChapelle capped the opening drive with a nine-yard rushing score to go up 7-0 after an eight-play, 65-yard drive that ate 4:33 off the clock.

After a turnover on downs towards the end of the first, Uxbridge needed just seven plays as Kellen LaChapelle rushed to the left for a 22-yard score as the Spartans went in front 13-0.

Kellen LaChapelle finished off the first-half hat trick after another turnover on downs forced by the defense as he took the ball 33 yards to make it 20-0 for the Spartans.

Amesbury got on the board on the ensuing drive as Dube hit a streaking Max Sanchez for a 48-yard catch and score. Senior Michael Sanchez added the two-point rush to make it a 20-8 deficit at the half.
