Tesla Backtracks and May Not Sue you for Reselling A New Cybertruck After All
Tesla has reportedly reversed its stance on potential legal action against individuals reselling their newly purchased Cybertrucks. Initially, Tesla’s Motor Vehicle Order Agreement contained a clause specific to the Cybertruck, indicating that the company could sue for up to $50,000 if the vehicle was resold within the first year of ownership. Additionally, the clause suggested that Tesla could refuse future vehicle sales to those who violated this stipulation.
However, as of a recent update, this resale clause has been removed from Tesla’s terms and conditions for the Cybertruck. The change was noticed in a section titled “For Cybertruck Only,” which previously outlined the company’s right to take legal action against resellers. The exact reason for Tesla’s reversal remains unclear, as the company has not provided an immediate response to inquiries from Business Insider.
According to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, the change might be related to Tesla’s efforts to manage the resale market for the Cybertruck. Ives speculated that Tesla could be implementing these measures to establish some control over the vehicle’s resale market dynamics while grappling with the challenges of scaling up production. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, has previously acknowledged the complexity of building the Cybertruck, describing it as a challenging vehicle to produce on a mass scale.
The Cybertruck, which has a distinctive trapezoidal design, has been a subject of controversy and curiosity since its unveiling in 2019. With the vehicle set to hit the market at the end of the month, opinions among car enthusiasts remain polarized. Some experts anticipate that the Cybertruck could revolutionize the truck segment, while others suggest that Musk and Tesla might face a substantial learning curve in delivering on the vehicle’s promises.
Tesla’s Cybertruck delivery event is scheduled for November 30 at its Texas Gigafactory. Despite the approaching date, many details about the truck remain unknown, adding to the anticipation and speculation surrounding this unique addition to the electric vehicle market.
