Boston Police officer struck by construction vehicle in North End
A Boston Police officer was struck by a construction vehicle in the North End earlier today.
The unnamed officer suffered “serious injuries, but non-life-threatening,” BPD Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin of the Bureau of Investigative Services told reporters at around 2:30 p.m. today.
The officer was working a paid detail at a construction area around the intersection of North Washington and Thacher streets Thursday when around 12:40 p.m. he helped the crew turn a construction vehicle around to go inbound back into the city.
“At that point he stopped traffic, the vehicle came through, it struck him, causing him to fall to the ground,” McLaughlin said. He said responders performed first aid before the officer was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.
McLaughlin, who spoke to reporters near the site of the collision, said the driver of the vehicle is being cooperative, is participating in a police interview and that, “At this point it’s a very active investigation” and still “too early” to determine if charges are warranted.
