Vikings receiver Jordan Addison vows to learn from his arrest

Vikings receiver Jordan Addison talked to reporters on Wednesday afternoon at TCO Performance Center. It marked the first time he has commented publicly since being arrested in Los Angeles earlier this month on suspicion of driving under the influence.

In his opening remarks, Addison noted that his attorney advised him not to answer any specific questions, so he couldn’t go into detail about being found asleep in the driver’s seat of his Rolls Royce. He added that he was in a dark place following his arrest.

“That’s just me being hard on myself knowing that I’ve got to do better,” Addison said. “I feel like ain’t nobody more disappointed in me than myself.”

In the same breath, Addison vowed to learn from his mistake, emphasizing that this experience will make him a better person in the long run.

“I’ve got a long life ahead of me outside of football,” Addison said. “Every day I’m going to keep learning, and I’m going to keep getting better.”

This isn’t the first time Addison has found himself in trouble because of poor decisions behind the wheel. He was pulled over in St. Paul last year for driving 140 mph in his Lamborghini. He expressed disappointment in himself at the time, going out of his way to promise that it wouldn’t happen again.

Now that it has?

“Just going to keep learning,” Addison said. “That’s all I can do.”

If the message from head coach Kevin O’Connell earlier this week was any indication, the Vikings aren’t in any rush to dish out consequences to Addison for his actions. Instead, it appears the Vikings will wait for the NFL to finish its investigation before they doing anything themselves.

Asked if he expected to be suspended by the NFL at some point, Addison replied, “I’m not sure what’s going on. I’ll own up to whatever it is. Any disciplinary actions that come my way, I’m going to stand tall.”

In the meantime, though, Addison feels blessed to be back on the field with the Vikings as they begin training camp.

“This has probably the most peace that I’ve felt,” Addison said. “Just being out here with my teammates.”

As he tried to turn the page following his arrest, Addison said the support from his teammates has meant the world to him.

“I was surprised by the support that I received,” Addison said. “I didn’t think it was going to be how it was. It was really important because I was in a dark place. I was feeling down, and they really uplifted me to come out here and perform at a high level.”

What does he think the biggest thing he’ll learn from his latest transgression?

“I feel like I’ll just learn to make better decisions,” Addison said. “That’s all it is. My decision making. It’s got to be better.”
