St. Paul officials plan to reopen a three-mile section of Shepard/Warner Road around 6 p.m. next Wednesday, as well as Sibley and Jackson streets between Shepard Road and Kellogg Boulevard.

The road, which was submerged under water just days ago, closed on June 23 due to Mississippi River flooding following heavy storms. The river unofficially crested in downtown St. Paul at 20.17 feet, the eighth highest water level recorded, on June 29.

On Thursday, river levels had fallen to 12.1 feet, or about two feet below “minor flood stage.” They’re projected to drop below 10 feet, or beneath “action stage,” by Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

St. Paul and Ramsey County Public Works crews have cleared debris and inspected Shepard/Warner Road and its underlying structures to make sure it’s safe for travel.

Water Street, which parallels Harriet Island Regional Park, will remain closed until inspection, testing and clean-up has been completed.
