Lynx roll over Sparks despite Collier’s absence
The Minnesota Lynx were missing standout Napheesa Collier for the second straight game Tuesday night.
But a team-wide effort helped fill the gap in a 82-67 road victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena.
The Lynx got points from all 10 available players led by Bridget Carleton, who finished with 16 points – including a perfect 4-for-4 performance from 3-point range – and Dorka Juhász, who added 15 points and six rebounds.
Kayla McBride and Cecilia Zandalasini each added 11.
It marked Minnesota’s 13th win over Los Angeles in the past 14 meetings between the two teams.
With Collier again sidelined with plantar fasciitis in her left foot, the Lynx (16-6) got started early, racing out to a 12-4 lead thanks to four points – including a steal and layup – by McBride. The Sparks (5-17) cut the gap to 12-8 before Minnesota embarked on a 15-4 run to jump on top 27-12, then took a 29-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Nine different players scored in the quarter for the Lynx, who went 12 for 18 from the field (66.7 percent) and scored six points off four Los Angeles turnovers.
The Sparks managed to rally in the second quarter, cutting the gap to as little as five on a 3-pointer by Dearica Hamby that made the score 37-32 with 4:14 remaining before halftime.
But Minnesota outscored Los Angeles 14-3 the rest of the way to take a 51-35 lead at the half. Juhász had 11 points to lead all scorers in the first half, and the Lynx got 19 points off the bench.
The Lynx didn’t let up in the third quarter, expanding their lead to as much as 25 and remained in control the rest of the way.
