Virginia Sen. Mark Warner assembling group asking Biden to exit race, Washington Post reports
Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia is planning to assemble a group of other Democratic senators to ask President Joe Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race, according to reporting in The Washington Post.
The Post said two people with knowledge of the plan confirmed that Warner was concerned after Biden’s performance in the most recent debate. Since then, Democratic lawmakers, donors and strategists are waiting to see if confidence in the Biden campaign can be restored. An interview between Biden and George Stephanopoulos will air Friday evening.
Warner has not commented publicly on Biden’s debate performance. Warner spokeswoman Rachel Cohen would not confirm or deny that Warner thinks Biden needs to drop out of the race, the Post reported.
Biden is scheduled to campaign Sunday in Pennsylvania.
