Red Sox enter rain delay in top of the second inning
Conditions were nice at first pitch, but things didn’t stay that way for long.
Wednesday’s series finale between the Red Sox and Blue Jays went into a rain delay after heavy rain began falling during the top of the second inning. The tarp came on the field with one out, one man on and the score still tied at 0-0, and with thunderstorms in the forecast fans have been asked to take cover under the grandstands.
As of this writing no restart time had been announced.
The timing of the storm was particularly unfortunate given that Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford had already thrown 22 pitches at the time of the stoppage. Crawford had posted two strikeouts and two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings, and if the delay drags on too long the club may be forced into another bullpen game following Brayan Bello’s 2.1-inning outing on Tuesday.
Yariel Rodriguez, Toronto’s starting pitcher, threw 15 pitches in a scoreless bottom of the first.
This is a developing story. Check back later for further updates.
