Clinging to a 2-point lead in a game they were about to give away, the Celtics needed a basket. Brown made the shot.

Not only did his field goal help deliver a 106-99 win, to effectively clinch a championship, Brown made franchise history, too.

The jumper pushed him to 30 total points, making Brown and Jayson Tatum the first Celtics teammates ever to record at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists in a Finals game. Brown also tied a career playoff high with eight assists, while Tatum snapped out of a shooting slump with a team-high 31 points. After the buzzer, the co-stars shared a long embrace.

“(I) just told him I was proud of him,” Tatum said, “and he said the same thing; that we’ve got to keep fighting.”

Brown echoed that sentiment post-game, reflecting on their seven years together.

“It’s awesome. I mean, I can’t — I don’t even really have words. It kind of doesn’t even really feel real right now. I’m just trying to stay in the moment,” Brown said.” It feels great to be up 3-0 in the series but the job is not done.”

Brown also hit on the difference between this year’s Celtics — who survived a massive Dallas push in the fourth quarter Wednesday that nearly erased a 21-point lead — and previous teams that suffered late-game collapses; basically saying they chose to make the right history instead of repeating their wrongs.

“All year long we’ve been hearing about the Celtics are the past, for the last six to eight months, that’s all we’ve been hearing is all the different shortcomings we’ve had in the past. This is a new team, you know what I mean? We’ve learned from those experiences,” he said. “And in these moments, you can see that we learned from it. We stepped up to the plate, and we found a way to win.”
