Pols & Politics Extra! Local races tell MassGOP’s new story
Will the failed Jim Lyons-Geoff Diehl faction of the state Republican party ever win a contested election?
They lost every single open race across the state in 2020 and 2022, including referendum questions. They were then ousted from control of the GOP state committee. And now they are getting routed in local municipal races.
Jay McMahon is one of the capos in the Lyons-Diehl cult, with impeccable credentials. He’s lost four elections — two for attorney general and two for state Senate.
In March, McMahon emailed Lyons’ minions urging them to vote for a slate of “their” candidates in assorted town elections in April.
McMahon endorsed a couple of candidates running unopposed for town moderator, but here’s how his three Lyons-Diehl candidates did when they faced opposition.
In Freetown, Kayla Churchill was crushed for selectman, 834-213.
In Billerica, Anthony “Meat Market” Ventresca finished dead last in his attempt to win reelection to the town planning board.
In Carver, Alan Germain lost his bid to win a seat on the Planning Board.
Some things never change….
