Patriots extra points: Bill Belichick-Robert Kraft tension explained by Julian Edelman, Drew Bledsoe

On the latest episode of Julian Edelman’s “Games with Names” podcast, the ex-Patriots receiver went deep on last Sunday’s Netflix special, The Roast of Tom Brady.

During the episode, Edelman spoke with former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who also attended the roast and told jokes at his old teammate’s expense. In their conversation, they revealed Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft spoke before the show and shared a tense moment off-stage. Edelman described the tension in that moment as being able to “cut f—ing glass.”

“Pre-show, we’re in the green room — remember that? Were you in there?” Edelman said to Bledsoe. “Bill’s opening up. He’s having fun, he’s talking war stories, talking rookie skits, talking fun s—, doing s— we know what Bill’s all about, but it was like amplified because he was excited to see you guys because he doesn’t have a job anymore.”

Bledsoe then described the moment Kraft entered while Belichick was “holding court.”

“As he’s in the middle of the story, Kraft walks in, and so you guys all go over to say hi to Kraft,” he said. “(Kraft) came in, and I was like, ‘Oh s—, there’s gonna be some fireworks,’” Edelman said. “I just walked away. I didn’t want to get in there.”

Bledsoe estimated that Belichick and Kraft spoke for roughly 10 minutes before the show. Later, they took a shot together on-stage at the behest of host and comedian Kevin Hart.
