Report: Red Sox optioning 1B Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A
Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec is reportedly being optioned to Triple-A, according to WEEI’s Rob Bradford.
The move has not been announced by the club, but all indications are that infielder Vaughn Grissom is traveling with the team to Minnesota and will be activated ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Twins. Dalbec being optioned would be a logical corresponding move.

Dalbec’s place on the roster had become tenuous after the Red Sox brought in two other first baseman, Garrett Cooper and Dominic Smith, to help fortify the position while Triston Casas is out. The Red Sox also acquired new utility infielder Zack Short who can serve as a back-up third baseman, leaving Dalbec without an obvious role.
Dalbec has also struggled at the major league level this season. In 21 games the 29-year-old has batted .137 with a .376 OPS. He has struck out 27 times while drawing three walks in 56 plate appearances and has yet to hit a home run.
Last season Dalbec did perform well with the WooSox, hitting 33 home runs in 114 Triple-A games, but those results haven’t translated to the big leagues since his promotion back to Boston last September.
