Colombia January 2024: Kia Picanto scores 2nd win in weakest market in 26 years

The Kia Picanto is the most popular vehicle in Colombia in January.

The Colombian new vehicle market sinks another -16.4% year-on-year in January to just 11,594 units, the weakest January figure since 1998 (11,295). Toyota (+10.2%) goes against the negative environment to land at #1 for the 4th month in a row with 14.7% share. It distances Chevrolet (-33.9%) and Renault (-35.6%) both freefalling. Kia (+26%) posts a formidable performance at #4 with 11.5% share vs. 8.4% over the Full Year 2023. Nissan (+45.4%) and Ford (+4.7%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 with Mazda (-8.9%), Volkswagen (-9.2%) and Suzuki (-10.2%) limiting their fall below the market rate.

Model-wise, the Kia Picanto (+72.3%) scores its 2nd ever win in Colombia after last November, outselling the #2, the Renault Duster (-3.9%) by 40%. As a reminder the Picanto ranked #6 over the Full Year 2023. The Mazda CX-30 (+324.1%) compensates on a drab year-ago result and ends the month on the third step of the podium with 4% of the market. The Renault Kwid (+15.6%) is back up to #4 ahead of the Toyota Corolla Cross (-11.3%), Hilux (+15.7%) and SW4 Fortuner (+8.7%) which was #1 last month. Notice also the new Kia K3 at #13 and Suzuki Fronx at #14.
