Red Sox announce upcoming starters for midweek road trip
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Kutter Crawford and Josh Winckowski will start the Red Sox upcoming games on Florida’s east coast, with Crawford scheduled to take the hill Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals and Winckowski on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals.
Crawford will face new Cardinals ace Sonny Gray in Jupiter, and he’ll be followed out of the bullpen by Brandon Walter, Isaiah Campbell, Justin Slaten, Helcris Olivarez and Justin Hagenman.
Garrett Whitlock will then make his second start of camp on Thursday when the Red Sox return to Fort Myers to face the Detroit Tigers.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated that the group heading to the east coast will be the same as who went to North Port to play the Braves on Sunday. That group was headlined by rookie outfielders Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu, with Reese McGuire, Bobby Dalbec and Pablo Reyes also scheduled to make the trip.
Catcher Connor Wong (elbow soreness) is set to begin throwing this week and is trending towards a full return this weekend, as is second baseman Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) and Jarren Duran (toe surgery rehab). Triston Casas (flu) still isn’t feeling well and will be away from the facility a couple more days.
