Women’s basketball: Nebraska jumps on Gophers early, rolls to victory
Nebraska’s Jaz Shelley had a game-high 16 points as the Cornhuskers defeated the Minnesota Gophers 70-51 in a Big Ten Conference game at Lincoln, Neb.
Natalie Potts had 12 points and Alexis Markowski added 10 points and 12 rebounds for Nebraska (19-9, 11-6) jumped out to a 24-8 first-half lead and was never headed.
Minnesota’s Mallory Heyer tallied her fifth double-double of the season, leading the Gophers (15-12, 5-11) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Amaya Battle added 12 points and Grace Grocholski 10 for Minnesota, which trailed by as much as 70-41 before closing the game on a 10-0 run.
The Gophers will be in the national spotlight in their next game when they play host to Caitlin Clark and the fourth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at Williams Arena.
