State gymnastics: North Branch’s Esget wins Class A all-around crown
North Branch junior Dakota Esget won the Class A all-around state gymnastics title Saturday in St. Paul, posting a score of 37.6 across the four events at Roy Wilkens Auditorium.
Esget also claimed an event title on uneven bars with her score of 9.5. Simley junior Lucy Penttila finished second in that event with a score of 9.425. Penttila was sixth in the all-around with a score of 36.7.
Esget finished second in floor and vault. The vault was the junior’s final event of the competition and, with a state championship on the line, Esget threw down a 9.725 on her second attempt.
Esget’s championship comes after she placed third in the all-around a year ago as a sophomore.
Hali Bullerman from Worthington was second in the all-around with a 37.25, while Monticello’s Lauren Hansen was in third.
Bullerman won the floor title with a 9.6. Becker’s Lauren Woelfel backed up the Bulldogs’ team title by winning the balance beam crown with a 9.45 and Avery McAllister from Perham/New York Mills won the vault with a 9.8.
