The Wuling Binguo is an instant blockbuster in Indonesia.

New vehicle wholesales in Indonesia sink a harsh -26% year-on-year in January to 69,619. The retail market is off -13.9% to 78,214. In the wholesales brands ranking, Toyota (-27.6%) falls slightly faster than the market and sees its share thaw to 30.1% vs. 33.5% over the Full Year 2023. Dahiatsu (-21.1%) resists better to 20.6% share vs. 18.7% over FY23. Honda (-46.6%) is in total freefall in third place with Suzuki (-6.8%) and Mitsubishi (-6.8%) performing well. The latter is up to 10% share vs. 7.7% over FY23. Wuling (+271.5%) completely defies the gloomy environment at #8. Kia (+483.3%), Lexus (+373.1%), Chery (+288.3%) and MG (+91.8%) all impress. In the retail charts, Toyota (-3.4%) and Honda (-9.1%) shine but Suzuki (-19.5%), Mitsubishi (-20.8%) and Daihatsu (-23%) slump. Chery (+162.7%), Wuling (+23.7%), BMW (+10.5%) and Mazda (+2.3%) shine.

Model-wise, looking at wholesales the Daihatsu Sigra (-14.8%) is the best-seller for the 6th time ever after April 2020, June 2022, December 2022, May 2023 and June 2023. The Honda Brio (-26.9%) rallies back up five spots on December to #2, distancing the FY2023 leader, the Toyota Kijang Innova (+27.8%) in outstanding shape year-on-year. The Toyota Avanza (-32.6%) falls hard while the Toyota Calya (-9.5%), Suzuki Carry Pikap (-13.1%) and Mitsubishi Xpander (-21.7%) resist. Below, the Toyota Agya (+26.4%) and Daihatsu Terios (+47.4%) both lodge fantastic performances just as the new Wuling Binguo EV already ranks #12 for its second month of sales.
