Editorial: 25th Amendment looms for Biden
The 25th Amendment is seriously in play.
President Biden’s mental acuity has become dire. Special counsel Robert Hur said the president is an “elderly man with a poor memory,” that’s why he did not charge him over blatant disregard of classified documents.
That and an endless series of gaffes has many asking if it isn’t time to invoke the amendment.
The 25th Amendment was passed by Congress in 1965 and ratified two years later. It would take a “written declaration” by Cabinet members “that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office,” the law states.
That would place Vice President Kamala Harris in charge. She is 59; Biden is 81.
The 25th amendment should be at least set in motion. Make the president convince the nation he can handle the job. If not, it is time for him to go.
