He is the youngest of Bill Belichick’s two sons, both of whom served on the Patriots’ coaching staff the last several years. Brian and Steve Belichick were offered the chance to stay in New England under new head coach Jerod Mayo, but Steve opted to accept a defensive coordinator at the University of Washington earlier this week.
As the Patriots’ safeties coach, Brian Belichick oversaw consecutive breakout seasons from Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers the past two seasons. The 32-year-old originally joined the organization as a scouting assistant in 2016, then worked as a coaching assistant the next three years. He started as the team’s safeties coach in 2019 and has remained in that position ever since.
It’s unclear what Brian Belichick’s role will be with the team. Last month, Mayo referred to him as a “great coach.” If Brian Belichick stays on the Patriots’ defensive staff, he will join newly promoted defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington and defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery on that side of the ball.
