Ram is bringing a little more attitude to the commercial-truck world for 2027 with a new Night Edition package for its Chassis Cab lineup. Offered on the Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab in both Regular Cab and Crew Cab configurations, the appearance package takes the familiar blacked-out treatment from Ram’s consumer pickups and applies it to trucks more commonly fitted with service bodies, flatbeds, dump boxes, tow equipment, and other serious work hardware. The 2027 Ram Chassis Cab Night Edition is scheduled to make its public debut at the 2026 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa.

The transformation is especially noticeable on Big Horn models, where the Night Edition adds black-painted wheels, black badging, gloss-black grille details, a Sport Performance hood, body-color grille surround, front bumper, fender flares, and door handles. Front and rear parking sensors are also included. Laramie models already come with several of those body-color pieces and parking sensors, so their Night Edition treatment focuses on black wheels and badges, gloss-black grille elements, and the Sport Performance hood. It is a relatively simple formula, but on a large commercial chassis it gives the truck a much more purposeful showroom presence without changing what makes it useful on the job.

Underneath the darker styling, these are still the same serious Chassis Cab workhorses. Buyers can choose a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 producing 375 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque or the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six with 360 horsepower and a stout 800 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission. Properly configured, a Cummins-powered Ram 5500 can tow as much as 34,540 pounds, while the HEMI-powered 5500 can carry up to 12,370 pounds of payload. Those figures are a reminder that the Night Edition may be about appearance, but the truck beneath it remains built around commercial-grade capability.

Ram also continues to put plenty of thought into the trucks that eventually get built on top of its chassis. Four cab-to-axle frame lengths are offered, including 60-, 84-, 108-, and 120-inch configurations, while the frame rails use the industry-standard 34-inch spacing expected by upfitters. Rear frame sections have a flat C-channel design with no components protruding above the rails, making it easier to install specialized bodies and equipment. Pre-drilled mounting and routing points further simplify the process, an important detail for businesses where time spent modifying a new truck can quickly translate into additional cost.

Technology has become increasingly important in this segment as well, particularly when these trucks regularly operate near their maximum payload and towing ratings. Available equipment includes adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and trailer-integrated emergency braking assistance. Ram also offers ParkSense Park Assist, a 270-degree camera system with trailer reverse guidance, and a cargo-view camera that can help drivers monitor an upfit or line up fifth-wheel and gooseneck connections. Tire-pressure monitoring can cover six tires on the truck along with as many as 12 trailer tires, a particularly useful feature for operators spending long days towing heavy equipment.

The 2027 Ram Chassis Cab Night Edition will be priced at $2,195 on Big Horn models equipped with the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group and $1,695 on Laramie models. Orders are expected to open during the fourth quarter of 2026, with availability following later in the year. For contractors and fleet operators, a blacked-out appearance package obviously will not replace towing capacity, payload, durability, or upfit flexibility when it comes time to choose a truck. Still, commercial vehicles often serve as rolling advertisements for the companies that own them, and Ram appears to understand that a truck earning its keep every day does not necessarily have to look purely utilitarian while doing it.
