Cadillac is bringing the XT6 back, and it will return with a gas-powered engine. After ending the three-row midsize SUV following the 2025 model year, Cadillac has confirmed that the nameplate is not finished after all. Kristian Aquilina, vice president of Cadillac Global, shared that the XT6 will return as an internal-combustion model, giving Cadillac another gasoline-powered three-row option beyond the Escalade.

The timing is important because Cadillac has been rebalancing its lineup after previously leaning heavily into an all-electric future. The Vistiq now fills the three-row EV role, but the XT6 served a different type of customer: someone who wanted Cadillac luxury, three rows, a more manageable size than an Escalade, and no need to plug in. Cadillac sold around 20,000 XT6 models in its final full year, while the electric Vistiq has not yet matched that level of volume.

Details are still limited, including the exact launch date, powertrain specifications, pricing, and whether the next XT6 will grow in size or move further upscale. What Cadillac has confirmed is that it will arrive after the redesigned XT5, which is expected in 2027. That points to the XT6 returning later in the decade as part of a broader gas-powered refresh that also includes Cadillac’s next-generation CT5 sedan.

The XT6 comeback shows that Cadillac is listening to the market, even if it complicates the brand’s earlier EV-only messaging. Luxury buyers are still interested in electric SUVs, but many families continue to prefer gasoline power for road trips, towing confidence, easier refueling, and lower upfront complexity. With the Escalade, Vistiq, XT5, and eventually a reborn XT6 all in play, Cadillac appears ready to give three-row SUV shoppers more choices instead of forcing one path forward.
