Why the DENZA Z Is One of the Most Exciting Electric Supercars to Arrive in the UK
DENZA has officially lifted the covers on its most ambitious model yet. At the same time, the premium brand has confirmed UK pricing for its new DENZA Z supercar, giving British buyers their first clear look at what promises to become one of the year’s most talked-about performance cars.
Developed by BYD’s premium division, the DENZA Z combines remarkable acceleration, advanced electric technology and everyday usability. Better still, buyers can choose between three distinct versions: Coupe, Spider and Racing.
Prices start from £142,900 for the Coupe, rising to £159,900 for the Spider and £172,900 for the track-focused Racing.
With 1,604PS, three electric motors and charging times measured in minutes rather than hours, the Z targets established names in the electric supercar market while offering its own interpretation of high performance.
DENZA makes a bold statement at Goodwood
The full Z range made its public debut at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Coupe and Racing joined the Spider, which first appeared earlier this year at Auto China in Beijing.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li unveiled the car alongside 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, underlining DENZA’s growing ambitions in Europe’s performance market.
The company describes the Z as “born to perform, built to win.” After examining its specifications, that claim appears well supported.

Three versions, one impressive powertrain
Every DENZA Z uses the same sophisticated triple-motor layout.
One motor drives the front axle, while two independent motors power the rear wheels. Together, they produce an impressive 1,604PS and 1,240Nm of torque.
Performance figures are equally striking.
Coupe: 0-62mph in 2.25 seconds
Spider: 0-62mph in 2.3 seconds
Racing: 0-62mph in as little as 1.96 seconds with optional semi-slick tyres
Top speed reaches 186mph in the Coupe and Spider. Meanwhile, the Racing extends that figure to 217mph, placing it among the world’s fastest production electric cars.
Built for the road and the circuit
The Racing model goes considerably further than a simple power upgrade.
It receives redesigned aerodynamic components, a larger cooling system and additional carbon-fibre bodywork. Buyers can also specify an adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing, while optional upgrades allow the rear seats to be replaced with a roll cage for track use.
These changes dramatically increase aerodynamic performance.
According to DENZA, the Racing can generate up to 1,060kg of downforce at 217mph, helping maintain stability during sustained high-speed driving.
Development work has included extensive testing at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife. Furthermore, DENZA plans to send a lightweight Special Edition to the famous circuit later this year in pursuit of lap records.
Elegant design meets functional engineering
The Z follows DENZA’s “Technology Drives Elegance” design philosophy.
Rather than relying on exaggerated styling, the car combines clean surfaces with carefully integrated aerodynamic features.
The Coupe and Spider measure 4,780mm long, making them the most compact DENZA models destined for Europe.
Strong front and rear wheel arches give the car a purposeful stance. At the same time, a slim waistline and low seating position reinforce its sporting character.
Functional air channels guide airflow through the front bumper and bonnet, reducing drag while improving cooling and downforce.
At the rear, diamond-inspired LED lights provide a distinctive finishing touch, while several paint options use a multi-layer finish that subtly changes shade under different lighting conditions.
A cabin designed around the driver
Inside, DENZA has focused on creating a cockpit that feels modern without becoming complicated.
The steering wheel takes inspiration from motorsport and features six physical buttons for frequently used functions, including Boost and Track modes.
High-quality materials appear throughout the cabin, including:
Carbon fibre trim
Suede-effect upholstery
Metal finishes
Soft-touch surfaces
Technology is equally impressive.
Every Z includes:
8.88-inch digital driver’s display
12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen
Google Built-in
Google Maps
Google Assistant
Google Play Store
Wireless smartphone charging
Digital rear-view mirror
Soft-closing doors
French audio specialist Devialet supplies the premium sound system. The Coupe and Racing feature twelve speakers, while the Spider receives ten.
Comfort has not been overlooked either.
The front seats include heating, ventilation, massage functions and electric adjustment. Coupe models also benefit from active side bolsters that provide extra support during enthusiastic driving.
Practicality that surprises
Despite its performance, the Z remains more practical than many traditional supercars.
A wheelbase of 2,780mm allows genuine seating for four occupants.
The Coupe and Racing also offer a 250-litre boot, which expands to 550 litres when the rear seats are folded.
That makes weekend trips considerably easier than in many rivals.
Advanced technology beneath the body
The Z sits on DENZA’s dedicated e3 Sports Car Platform, developed specifically for high-performance electric vehicles.
The platform combines several important innovations:
Triple-motor all-wheel drive
Cell-to-Body battery integration
DiSus-M intelligent suspension
BYD’s latest FLASH Charging technology
Together, these systems aim to improve performance, efficiency and structural rigidity while maintaining everyday comfort.
One particularly interesting feature is the Vehicle Motion Control system.
Rather than treating steering, suspension and braking independently, it coordinates them simultaneously. As a result, the car responds more quickly to changing road conditions and driver inputs.
The platform also introduces a tyre burst control system that automatically redistributes torque if a puncture occurs, helping maintain stability until the driver can stop safely.
Perhaps the most unusual feature is the Compass Turn.
Using its three motors independently, the Z can rotate around its front axle in extremely tight spaces. While few owners are likely to use it regularly, it highlights the flexibility of the car’s electric drivetrain.
FLASH Charging could change the electric supercar experience
Charging has long been one of the biggest concerns for buyers considering an electric performance car. DENZA believes it has found an answer with its latest FLASH Charging system.
Every Z uses a 76kWh second-generation Blade Battery paired with BYD’s newest ultra-fast charging technology.
The figures are certainly impressive.
Charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes
Charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes
Even at -30°C, recharge from 20% to 97% in around 12 minutes
If these charging speeds are achieved in real-world conditions, they would represent one of the biggest advances yet for high-performance electric cars.
The battery also forms part of the car’s structure through BYD’s Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology. This improves rigidity while reducing weight and making better use of the available space.
Range remains practical
Performance has not come entirely at the expense of driving range.
Official WLTP figures are:
ModelWLTP RangeCoupe254 milesSpider248 milesRacing236 miles
Although buyers are unlikely to purchase the Z purely for efficiency, these figures make longer journeys more realistic than many earlier electric supercars.
Intelligent suspension adapts to every journey
The Z features DENZA’s latest DiSus-M intelligent suspension.
Instead of fixed damper settings, the system constantly adjusts the suspension using magnetorheological fluid. Consequently, it can react within milliseconds to changing road conditions.
The result is a car that remains comfortable on uneven roads while delivering greater control during spirited driving.
The Coupe and Spider combine the system with air suspension. Meanwhile, the Racing uses conventional coil springs to provide sharper responses on circuit.
Large carbon-ceramic brakes also come as standard across the range.
Besides reducing unsprung weight, they offer improved cooling and exceptional durability.
Standard equipment leaves little to add
Many rivals reserve their best features for expensive options. By contrast, DENZA includes a generous specification as standard.
Highlights include:
Heated, ventilated and massage front seats
Wireless smartphone charging
Digital rear-view mirror
Soft-closing doors
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)
Devialet premium audio system
Dolby Atmos
Remote access through the DENZA smartphone app
Multi-colour ambient lighting
Personalisation is another strength.
Customers can choose from 10 exterior colours, 10 interior colour combinations and four brake caliper finishes. Spider buyers can also specify the roof in several different colours.
Technology extends beyond straight-line speed
The Z offers far more than rapid acceleration.
Drivers can activate Boost Mode directly from the steering wheel, temporarily increasing performance for overtaking or maximum acceleration.
Track Mode takes things further.
It records lap times, G-forces and vehicle positioning while allowing drivers to adjust settings for power delivery, regenerative braking, suspension, traction control and torque distribution.
Owners can even save multiple custom profiles for different circuits or driving styles.
Safety remains a priority
Performance has been matched with a comprehensive list of safety technologies.
Standard equipment includes:
Blind Spot Detection
Intelligent Cruise Control
Lane Departure Assist
Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Automatic Emergency Braking
Driver Fatigue Monitoring
Multiple airbags throughout the cabin
These systems are designed to support the driver without reducing engagement behind the wheel.
A new contender enters the supercar market
The DENZA Z arrives at an interesting moment.
Established manufacturers continue to develop increasingly powerful electric performance cars, yet relatively few combine headline performance with fast charging, everyday practicality and a generous standard specification.
DENZA appears determined to challenge that convention.
The combination of 1,604PS, sub-two-second acceleration in Racing specification, rapid charging and genuine four-seat practicality gives the Z a distinctive position within the market.
Its UK pricing also makes it highly competitive against several established electric supercars offering similar performance.
Whether buyers embrace a new name in this exclusive segment remains to be seen. However, the Z demonstrates that DENZA has the engineering capability to compete with some of the industry’s biggest names.
Final thoughts
The DENZA Z is far more than another high-powered electric coupe. It represents a serious statement from BYD’s premium brand and highlights how quickly electric performance cars continue to evolve.
Exceptional acceleration, sophisticated technology, rapid charging and an impressive level of standard equipment all strengthen its appeal. Moreover, three distinct versions ensure there is a model for both road-focused drivers and regular track-day enthusiasts.
The next challenge is proving itself in the hands of customers.
