Shiri Spear named Boston 25’s new chief meteorologist after Kevin Lemanowicz leaves
This was one forecast that many correctly predicted.
Longtime Boston 25 News meteorologist Shiri Spear has been named the station’s new chief meteorologist after Kevin Lemanowicz left last week.
Spear — who has become a household name over the years — will continue to anchor Boston 25’s morning weather coverage while stepping into her new leadership role.
Cox Media Group’s Boston 25 announced Spear’s promotion on Monday.
“It’s such an honor to take over the role of Chief and build on what Kevin has grown here over the last 30 years,” Spear said.
“Boston has some of the best of the best meteorologists from broadcast, the private sector, and our local National Weather Service,” she added. “I’m excited to grow our station’s weather coverage across all platforms. As a mom too, I’m proud to show my daughters that you can work hard at a job you love and find fulfillment.”

In her expanded role, Spear will oversee the station’s weather coverage across all platforms, lead the team of weather experts, guide severe weather strategy, and participate in community outreach efforts.
“We worked side by side for over a decade and I can tell you unequivocally she is the best meteorologist to take the team forward,” posted Lemanowicz, who departed Boston 25 when his contract expired.
“@ShiriSpear is a real meteorologist,” he added. “She loves the science and communicating it to everyone. Shiri is also committed to the community she is part of- all of you! I couldn’t be more proud of my friend and nobody is more deserving.”
Spear has covered everything from nor’easters to ice storms to tornadoes and flooding.
She’s also deeply involved in the community — frequently visiting schools, supporting local events, and inspiring young students to pursue careers in STEM.
“Shiri exemplifies everything we value at Boston 25 News,” said VP and General Manager Todd Brown. “Her deep knowledge of the weather, commitment to keeping our community safe, and her genuine care for the community make her the perfect choice for Chief Meteorologist. We are thrilled she will continue to start each morning with our audience.”

I’m looking forward to what opportunities await.”
